Have you ever considered having your wedding on a weekday? Weekday weddings come with a lot of perks, including greater vendor availability and fewer crowds in ideal photo locations. Katie and Mike took advantage of this for their Wednesday wedding at Restaurant August. It was a simple but beautiful day that highlighted what they cared about most.
These are just four of the many great reasons to have a wedding on a weekday.
Popular wedding venues book up far in advance for high prices. If you have your wedding on a weekday, you often can book a dream venue for a discounted price. Travel accommodations are often easier to book and less expensive during the week as well. Overall, it can be financially and logistically easier to have a weekday wedding.
As you might have guessed from the ease of booking a venue and accommodations, New Orleans is way less busy during the week. It can feel like you have the whole city to yourself! In general, fewer people makes moving around the city to take portraits a lot easier. The musical heart of New Orleans is always beating, whether it’s a Monday morning or Saturday night. In general, though, weekdays are less crowded. As a result, it’s easier to get those magical wedding photos with fewer people in the background or taking up transportation.
Even small weddings and elopements can require a team to pull off, from florists to photographers and day of coordinators. Although New Orleans fully reopened a while ago, COVID reschedules have maxed out a lot of vendors’ weekend availability. If there are people you dream of working with, opt for a wedding on a weekday. You’ll have a better chance at assembling your dream team.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that your wedding is an honest reflection of your relationship. You and your love deserve the chance to bask in connecting with each other rather than following traditions that don’t work for you. Why not have a weekday wedding getaway for your guests and you?
For their wedding on a weekday, Katie and Mike traveled from California to New Orleans. Their closest friends and family joined them in the city they both love so much. The couple has treasured memories in New Orleans, and it was a fitting place for their small wedding.
A weekday wedding was just right for Katie and Mike, who wanted a straightforward, simple celebration. They skipped a lot of the bells and whistles that didn’t matter to them and had more fun for it. I really respected how they focused on what mattered rather than get distracted by what they felt pressured to do. Everyone felt relaxed and enjoyed the lowkey day.
Katie and Mike did a few things to make sure their wedding on a weekday stayed relaxed and fun. Firstly, they chose getting ready locations within walking distance of each other. I was able to go back and forth between the two to capture getting ready photos of both of them. If they’d been further apart, this would have been much more difficult.
One of the great things about Katie’s getting ready location was that it was in the neighborhood where Katie and Mike wanted portraits. We transitioned easily from getting ready to the first look without having to take a lot of time for travel. Their generous timeline and intentionality in planning made it easy to capture images in the locations that mattered most to them.
After taking portraits at Audubon Park, we headed to Restaurant August for Katie and Mike’s ceremony and reception. August is a Creole restaurant in New Orleans’ Central Business District. The classic New Orleans architecture paired with subtle but eclectic touches to the interior made it a great spot for this Wednesday wedding.
Katie and Mike exchanged vows in front of a beautiful white fireplace with lush florals and elegant candles on the mantle. Afterwards guests enjoyed drinks, dinner, and live music. The venue gave the no-frills affair an elevated atmosphere where the couple could focus on connecting with their loved ones.
