Geena and Kyle traveled from Las Vegas for a celebratory New Orleans wedding. As they are both LSU Alumni, it seemed fitting that they would have their wedding celebration in New Orleans. They had their wedding at the Chicory, a classic New Orleans wedding venue that sits on top of a vintage-style cobblestone street. A true New Orleans gem!
Geena and Kyle are the kind of people who prioritize their friends and family. So when we talked about what was important to them to capture on their wedding day, it was moments between them and their friends/family.
Because “moments” over perfectly curated images were the priority for Geena and Kyle, this made documenting their wedding on various types of film an obvious choice.
Moments over perfection
What I love about film is that it really strips away the need for the photo to be absolutely perfect in order for it to be valuable. While my #1 goal is to always provide the best, most well composed photos I possibly can, what matters most is having photos that truly represent what the day felt like.
What Geena + Kyle’s New Orleans wedding felt like was one big giant group hug. Their friends and family were incredibly kind to be around, and overall the day felt so warm. With this being the context in which the day was held, it made sense to have a variety of film mediums capture and document their day. The photos of their nieces and nephews on film are some of my favorite from this celebration. They feel instantly nostalgic – like true treasures. Especially the Polaroids! They feel like something from another time.
It was also a Jewish wedding, full Jewish wedding traditions like the signing of the ketubah, a ceremony under the chuppah, breaking of the glass and of course, the hora dance!
The wedding on the rooftop of the Chicory was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining so bright and was unobstructed by any trees or buildings, which made for some ideal conditions to shoot film for their rooftop ceremony!
Some of my absolute favorite portraits from the day were from my time alone with Kyle and Geena on the rooftop of the Chicory. It has beautiful views of the city, especially around sunset. An absolute perfect place to use film!
Reception at the Chicory
The reception at the Chicory was full of earthy tones, beautiful florals, and of course amazing food and drinks! Their cake was to die for!
Geena + Kyle chose to have their second line parade at the end of their wedding for one final hurrah before their event was over! Kinfolk Brass Band was the band this evening, and there is nothing quite like dancing down the street hearing them play!
When I was a part of Geena + Kyle’s day, I felt truly woven into their friends and family – a great feeling to have as a wedding vendor.
All the love to Kyle + Geena,
Xo,
