Hello!

Gothic Wedding at the Pharmacy Museum

December 16, 2022

Filed under:

How do you match the moody mystery of the French Quarter? Gothic wedding details, of course! When Hallie and Conor traveled to New Orleans for an intimate elopement, Hallie’s look added a romance to the day. These loving images show just how genuine and unique these two are.

First Look at Hotel Mazarin

Hallie and Conor are actually having a larger ceremony next year. They wanted a deeply intimate and personalized experience as well, so they opted to have a New Orleans elopement ahead of the bigger celebration. They did have some friends and family at their ceremony, but for most of the day, they just wanted to explore the French Quarter together. I came along to document the relaxed day full of tender moments.

We started Hallie and Conor’s wedding photos at Hotel Mazarin where they stayed for their trip. Hallie and Conor wanted to do a first look in the courtyard. The photo of Hallie coming down the stairs is one of my favorites from 2022! I didn’t know which staircase she would come down but had a hunch it might be this one. I’m so glad it was! The light illuminating her from behind, the composition, even her smile all make this image so special.

French Quarter Wedding Photos

From Hotel Mazarin, we headed into the French Quarter. New Orleans is known for magic and mystery, so Hallie’s gothic wedding details fit so perfectly with the surroundings. Her lace dress had a vintage romance to it. Her tiara even seemed to reference the ironwork of the balconies lining every street. On top of her clothing and accessories, Hallie’s moody bouquet from Fat Cat Flowers made these portraits come to life.

Hallie and Conor wanted to visit some iconic spots in the French Quarter. I was intentional about taking them when the light would be ideal for each, and it worked out so well. The sun lowering over the Creole cottages added some magical solar flares to a few of the photos. They felt just right with Hallie’s gothic wedding look.

We ended Hallie and Conor’s exploration of the French Quarter with a stop in Jackson Square. Hallie and Conor recited their private vows to each other. This was a really emotional part of the day. That’s saying a lot because the whole afternoon was full of laughter and happy tears! It’s amazing how, even in the middle of the French Quarter, this moment could feel so set apart.

Gothic Wedding Ceremony at the Pharmacy Museum

Hallie and Conor had their gothic wedding ceremony at the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum. This is one of my favorite venues in the city! It’s quirky, fascinating, and appealing to the coolest couples. Just take a look at the interior portraits of Hallie and Conor surrounded by apothecary artifacts. There’s nothing else like it in New Orleans. In the last couple of years, I photographed this nighttime ceremony and this afternoon micro wedding in the courtyard. All of them have an intimate, slightly otherworldly atmosphere.

The Pharmacy Museum courtyard was a perfect spot for a wedding like this. The tropical plants in the courtyard give it a wild, slightly overgrown feeling. It really felt tucked away from the world. The vine-covered arch and ironwork also suited all of Hallie’s gothic wedding details.

The guestlist for Hallie and Conor’s wedding ceremony included just thirteen of their closest friends and family members. Sometimes a micro wedding at a large venue leaves a space feeling oddly empty. The Pharmacy Museum courtyard feels just right for a micro wedding. The guests can gather and all get a good view of the beautiful ceremony.

Hallie and Conor’s guests arranged themselves in two lines. For photos, it worked out that you could see so many of the guests’ reactions as well as Hallie and Conor during the ceremony. You don’t often get both of those perspectives in one composition.
