There are few places that make me feel in love with Louisiana more than Fontainebleau State Park. While the historic charm and color of the French Quarter makes for a gorgeous backdrop for photos, the pure beauty of Fontainebleau State Park is unmatched. For engagement photos, especially ones that are intimate and quiet, there truly isn’t a more romantic place than Fontainebleau at sunset.
When you enter the park, you are greeted with sprawling oaks withSspanish moss creating a mysterious canopy over top of you. As you drive to the beachfront, each twist and turn of the road presents stately oaks that truly make you feel like you’ve stepped on to a Nicholas Sparks movie set.
When you reach the beachfront, the light dances Lake Pontchartrain in a way that is enchanting. Oftentimes at the park I ask myself “Is this really Louisiana?!” – for the beauty of this place is unmatched.
From a photographer’s perspective, it is a dream location to shoot in. Even on the busiest of days, like the day we did this engagement session with Peyton and Erin, there are always pockets of privacy and beauty to be found here. Since this is a family friendly park too, most families start to head out of the park when lighting conditions are ideal, giving us optimal time to shoot in this scenic environment.
For Peyton and Erin’s engagement session, we were aiming for romantic swamp vibes to be embodied in their photos. Each pocket of space at Fontainebleau offers a chance to achieve just that.
We started their engagement photos at the Fontainebleau lakefront with our feet in the sand. The waterfront here is spectacular for clean, crisp and minimalistic engagement photos that allow for the emotion of the couple to shine through.
After we spent some time directly on the lakefront, Peyton and Erin changed into a more formal outfit where we spent some time under the Spanish moss hanging from the Oak trees. This gave such a romantic vibe, especially with the sunset light shining through!!
Finally, and perhaps my favorite part of the session, we ventured back into some of the lagoons of the park which truly are the showstopper locations for engagement photos at Fontainebleau State Park. With the sun sinking into Lake Pontchartrain casting a golden glow, the cypress trees seem like they majestically rise up from the lake in a dramatic fashion.
We ended our time together for their engagement photos at Fontainebleau with wine while watching the sun go down.
If you’re in the New Orleans area and wanting something a bit different for your engagement photos, Fontainebleau is the perfect spot.
