It’s true that I love every wedding day that I get invited into. It’s also true that there are some weddings where things line up to create an extra special event. Camille and Justin’s colorful, flower-filled wedding day at Derbes Mansion was exactly that.
Each vendor that had a hand in this day contributed to creating something not only special, but an evening that felt like a living piece of art. From the venue itself, to the florals, the food, the paper goods, the music and the seamless coordination, everything came together beautifully.
Bride and Groom Getting Ready Together on their Wedding Day
We started the day with Justin and Camille getting ready together – I loved that these two went against tradition of not seeing each other until the ceremony or first look because these are some of my favorite photos from the day! Justin helped Camille get into her dress and the two were able to have quiet moments together before the rush of the day began.
Camille had gorgeous henna applied to her hands and feet in the days leading up to the wedding which were also so beautiful to photograph!
Since the wedding was held in spring, there is always a chance of rain here in New Orleans. What started as a forecast of a complete washout actually turned into a really ideal day after the rain had passed earlier in the morning. Derbes Mansion is a historic property and is covered in lush foliage that adds a classic New Orleans charm. The current owners have put in so much work to this place and it’s evident – from the outside of the property to all the detailing inside, this venue is truly a gem. I love working New Orleans weddings here!
Derbes mansion is also a great option if you have a lot of out of town guests because you rent the entire place out for the weekend! You can have the entire place to yourself and your guests for the weekend. This makes it the perfect venue for New Orleans destination weddings, especially if you’re having multiple wedding events over the course of the weekend.
Incorporating your dog into your wedding
Camille and Justin were lucky enough to have their dog, Evie, present with them for their wedding day! Evie stole the show for a lot of the day, including sitting right in the middle of Justin and Camille while they were exchanging their wedding vows!
An intimate ceremony at Derbes Mansion
The ceremony set up for Camille and Justin’s wedding was unmatched – the vibrant florals by Herbivore Florals paired with the rentals from Distressed Rentals was an absolute vision to see. It might be my favorite ceremony set up that I’ve shot in a while. I also loved that Camille and Justin chose to keep their wedding ceremony intimate, and only had immediate family and a few close friends present.
A lively reception at Derbes Mansion
While Camille and Justin’s ceremony was quiet and intimate, their party was on the other end of the spectrum. Inside Derbes Mansion was a wig tower full of colorful options for their guests to slip on and live out a different identity for the evening. The couple and their guests also did a long second line, led by Kinfolk Brass Band, around the city before settling into the space for the evening.
One of my favorite details of the evening was seeing that Camille and Justin had hired Cubs the Poet to provide custom poems for the guests. It was a honor to see Cubs work, see his intentional process, and even read some of the poems he created for the couple and guests! He really took the time to get to know each couple in front of him, and his work is moving.
I have to say that the wigs on the dance floor were some of my favorite photos taken of this event. It really allowed their guests to let loose and have a good time!
Finally, the evening ended with a bubble send off! I can’t sing praises for the team who worked this event enough. Everyone was fantastic!
