While I’ve been lucky enough to photograph quite a few Hotel Peter + Paul weddings, this one takes the cake. Cynthia and Evan, PhD candidates in philosophy, reached out wanting their wedding photographed there. I knew I was in for a treat. This venue is one of the more interesting ones in New Orleans, right in the peaceful Marigny neighborhood. Cynthia and Evan’s wedding photos show the incredible depth of their relationship and wedding day.
The Hotel Peter + Paul Wedding Venue
Hotel Peter + Paul is a venue with a contemplative nature. It is a former Catholic church that’s been renovated into a hotel, but it still features many well-restored remnants of what it was. I find this venue to be absolutely stunning when empty, but filled with an event makes it even more interesting.
Originally built in 1861, Hotel Peter + Paul features breathtaking details like stained glass and a domed ceiling and is a quick walk from New Orleans’ French Quarter. There’s something about the venue that truly feels unlike anything else, and it’s even more evident when you’re inside.
Cocktail hour and wedding catering are organized directly with Bacchanal Catering and the hotel. The hotel makes weddings easy with amenities like Chiavari chairs made of mahogany, tables, and more. Adding candles to this space adds a nice warm ambiance, so I was excited that Cynthia and Evan had a candlelit event.
An Environment Unlike Any Other
What made this particular wedding at Hotel Peter + Paul stand out so much was the top-notch vendor team. They created an environment just for Cynthia and Evan that truly relationship their relationship and the tender love they have for one another.
I was able to collaborate with Lonney Jane Productions on this event and they are one of our area’s most prominent planners. They are a husband and wife team and working with them was absolutely seamless. Their vision they had to create this masterpiece of an event was truly incredible, and even just looking through the photos brings me back to that day.
The team was able to create an environment that felt like what a large gathering or party may have looked like back in the 1800s here. There were long, grand tables that were lit only by candlelight, and a vintage jazz band played in the back. It really felt like a classic New Orleans celebration.
Of course, I can’t talk about this environment without mentioning the Bywater Bakery. Remember that sweet treat I mentioned? The incredible cake by this team was one of the best I’ve come across in my years as a wedding photographer – I probably ate three slices.
Cynthia + Evan’s Intentional Celebration
So much detail and intention was put into each and every part of Cynthia and Evan’s day. I was joyous to create photographs depicting every moment, but especially those from Cynthia’s bridal suite. Cynthia’s room at Hotel Peter + Paul featured classic shades of blue, perfect for a wedding. I was able to document moments with her bridal party and as she got ready while also capturing the intricacies of her wedding outfit.
The wedding photos from Cynthia and Evan’s weddings feel intimate, and I’m so excited to share them throughout this blog post. I especially love all of the sweet moments between the two of them that I was able to document.
As a New Orleans wedding photographer, I’m always thrilled to photograph at historic local venues like Hotel Peter + Paul. I’m almost positive I’ll experience the joy of photographing a wedding there just as intentional as Cynthia and Evan’s again sometime soon.
