When Mariela and Pablo reached out to me and shared their vision for their wedding at Hotel Peter and Paul in New Orleans, I knew right away we were a perfect match. This couple wanted chic, romantic photos that conveyed the tender emotions at the center of their celebration.
As a New Orleans editorial style wedding photographer, I believe that editorial style photos can look magazine-worthy and still feel warm, emotional, and inviting, which was my focus when capturing Mariela and Pablo’s day.

Vibrant Editorial Wedding Photography at Hotel Peter and Paul With Mardi Gras Indians Second Line
When I look back at photos of this stunning wedding at Hotel Peter and Paul, I am mesmerized by how much this wedding day resembles a page from a high-end editorial magazine! This day featured a monochromatic color palette, a beautiful bride, and an abundance of eye-catching wedding details.
Also, I have to add that Hotel Peter and Paul is an ideal backdrop for editorial wedding photography. This space is filled with enchanting, rich colors and a gorgeous domed ceiling.
Mariela and Pablo are from Texas but love New Orleans, making it the perfect city to tie the knot. Fun fact – Mariel and Pable are both incredible dancers, so a wedding day focused on dancing and music was a must.
A lot was happening on the day of this wedding, and the day was wildly complex in terms of location changes and transportation but Mariela and Pablo hired the best wedding planners, Confetti and Co, who did a fantastic job making sure everyone was where they needed to be and that the day was full of seamless transitions from one place to the next.

Mardi Gras Indians Second Line
One of the highlights of this wedding day was the second line with the Mardi Gras Indians. I had never seen them up close like this, and I was literally starstruck when they arrived! Their elaborate beaded costumes are truly a work of art.
The Mardi Gras Indians are an incredible experience to add to your second line parade that will leave you and your guests in awe!
A brief, yet important, history of the Mardi Gras Indians – they actually named themselves after Native Americans as a way to pay them respect for their help in escaping slavery.
Local Indians were the ones who accepted slaves into their society when they were trying to gain freedom. Now the Mardi Gras Indians are made up, in large part, of the African-American communities of New Orleans’ inner city. If you want to learn more about the history of the Mardi Gras Indians, go here!
To conclude their celebration, Mariela and Pablo ended their second line at Cornet. This happens to be an iconic balcony bar on Bourbon Street. They have a French Quarter balcony, award-winning cocktails, first-class service, and a variety of options to make your celebration unique and unforgettable.
It would be hard to find a better place to conclude your wedding day!

Mariela and Pablo’s Classy and Romantic Wedding Details
One of the things that stood out to me the most on Mariela and Pablo’s wedding day was the incredible attention to detail.
For instance, inside the chapel at Hotel Peter and Paul, at the altar, there were floral arrangements consisting only of red roses in gold vases. The red roses were surrounded by candles in glass vases, which created a soft, inviting glow that filled the space.
Also, lining the aisle to the altar, they had both large and small white candles flickering in their glass vases.
Each bridesmaid carried a simple red rose in their hand in place of a traditional wedding bouquet, while each groomsman had only a single red rose boutonniere. Also, every bridesmaid even wore a rich gold dress, which matched the gold vases at the altar.
Mariela and Pablo’s reception also embodied this classy and romantic theme with elegant gold cutlery, white draped tables, a tier of champagne glasses and candles, and red roses everywhere you looked.

Is Editorial Style Wedding Photography Perfect for You?
When it comes to wedding photography styles, editorial wedding photography, while stunning, may not be the perfect fit for everyone. A lot of times, when people think of “editorial,” they think of images that are hyper-curated or designed.
And while that is definitely a part of the editorial world, the editorial perspective I bring to portrait portions of the day is “how can I make this image as clean and compelling as possible?”
For me, that means free of distracting elements, clean lines, etc, in order to communicate the emotion of the moment. I want the feeling of the photo to be evident.
The bottom line is that editorial wedding photography is a style that’s heavily influenced by fashion and art. Usually, there’s a lot of very deliberate posing. Think those photos of big wedding parties arranged in chairs or standing in power poses around a couple. Some people are really drawn to this style of photography, while others find it a little impersonal.
The editorial style is all about telling your story, capturing the details, and giving you an array of beautiful, unique, and creative images.
