Planning a Wedding in New Orleans at Latrobe’s on Royal

Filed under:

Latrobe’s on Royal is a glamorous New Orleans wedding venue that’s perfect for you if you want a historic backdrop that is filled with lots of character and an atmosphere that breathes romance and grandeur.

As a New Orleans wedding photographer, I adore every chance I have to photograph at this venue. It’s artistic, unique, and elegant, and no two weddings I have photographed here have ever felt the same.

What to Know About Planning a Wedding in New Orleans at Latrobe’s on Royal

Latrobe’s on Royal is a historic building in the French Quarter that was constructed in 1820. It originally was home to the Louisiana State Bank.

It’s a quintessential mix of French Quarter architectural details, with a balcony and windows bracketed by green shutters. Out-of-town guests have their choice of hotels and restaurants in the French Quarter. Locals, too, will have an easy time finding it and enjoying themselves.

Ceremonies usually take place in the courtyard – but don’t be misled by the word “courtyard”. In this case, the courtyard happens to be a fully enclosed indoor space. There are two spots within the courtyard where you can have your ceremony.

One is in front of large, dark green doors, and the other is in front of a tall white door that leads out to the cake room and ballroom. The courtyard also has lots of exposed wood beams, gas lanterns, shutters, and bricks, creating a moody and edgy backdrop.

Many couples who choose to get married here choose to get married by candlelight, and I have to say that both ceremony spots are equally stunning, so there’s no need to worry about making the wrong choice.

You can also have your reception at Latrobe’s in their main ballroom. This massive room has a domed ceiling and is the epitome of elegance and grandeur. The ballroom is spacious and has a beautiful, high, domed ceiling and many arches throughout.

Another reason I adore this venue is all the different places throughout where you can capture artistic, editorial-style photos. Some of my favorite spots are the main stairway and the courtyard, but there are lots of hidden gems throughout.

To conclude your celebration, you can plan an unforgettable send-off with a second line parade through the French Quarter. The staff at Latrobe’s can help with the arrangements for this, and it’s such a fun and iconic way to end your day!

Ashley + Rhett’s Candlelit, Romantic Latrobe’s on Royal Wedding in New Orleans

If all of this has captured your attention, take a behind-the-lens look at Ashley and Rhett’s wedding to get a glimpse of what your celebration here could look like:

Ashley and Rhett planned an elegant and unforgettable wedding at Latrobe’s on Royal. Their celebration was a nonstop party, and every detail of their day was intentional and artistic. The exquisite details of their day still linger in my mind.

Ashley also happens to be a very creative and talented individual, and she actually created many design elements herself for their celebration, including drawing the invites!

While Ashley and Rhett are two very different people, it’s clear how well they complement and balance each other. If there was one word to describe how it felt to be with them throughout their wedding, it was “balanced.”

Before their wedding, I photographed Ashley and Rhett’s rehearsal dinner at Brennan’s, which is a restaurant with an innovative Creole menu that borrows influences from French and Spanish ancestry and a charming atmosphere that blends history and modern elegance.

I captured some couple portraits of Ashley and Rhett during their dinner, and I have to say they are some of my absolute favorite photos. These couple portraits felt very high-end and very editorial, which I love!

Ashley and Rhett’s wedding day started at the beautiful historic home Antoine Bordeaux, located in the iconic French Quarter. This house has many elements throughout that feel inspired by European architecture and design.

Each room seems to have its own story, and it features a gorgeous private roof deck and a fountain, which are both great spots for unique photos.

After Ashley and Rhett got ready, we headed to Bevolo for their first look. Bevolo is a local supplier of gas lanterns that has been around since 1945. The interior of Bevolo created such a dramatic, intimate atmosphere, and it was a gorgeous spot for these two to share a romantic first look – it truly felt like a cinematic moment.

Then it was time for their ceremony at Latrobe’s. The ambiance of Latrobe captivates you from the moment you arrive. For Ashley and Rhett’s ceremony, they had a backdrop of lanterns and candles paired with the building’s stunning interior architecture. Their ceremony and reception were moody, romantic, and intimate, aligning perfectly with their wedding vision.

Couples like Ashley and Rhett remind me of how lucky I am to do what I do! They fully confided in me to take memorable images that captured their day exactly as it was. They gave me complete freedom to be artistic and creative while capturing their couple portraits.
