Ever wonder if it’s possible to have both a laidback and luxurious wedding? Inna and Harrison’s wedding at Margaret Place in New Orleans was exactly that! While the details and design of the day were luxurious, the whole day, thanks in large part to the coordination and planning of Kelly Sherlock Events, was incredibly laidback and easy-going. Not to mention, the couple and their family and friends moved through the day with ease and no rush. A perfect combination!
Welcome to New Orleans dinner at Miel Brewery
To start of their wedding weekend, Inna and Harrison had their welcome dinner at Miel Brewery, a local favorite nestled in the historic Irish Channel neighborhood. Since many of their guests travelled to New Orleans for their wedding, the couple wanted to treat their guests to a local brewery and food experience!
Miel Brewery is known for their unique, in-house brews as well as their lush garden-equese courtyard that is both great for parties and families! The couple also had Hatch & Harvest, one of my personal favorite local New Orleans food trucks, cater the welcome dinner. This was such a treat!
Miel also has non-alchoholic options like slushees that are perfect for warm weather! Since I was currently very pregnant when working this wedding, this was the perfect way to have a tasty treat – without the alcohol!
Modern luxury meets laidback New Orleans at Margaret Place
For their wedding ceremony and reception, the couple chose Margaret Place as the venue. This is one of my favorite venues to shoot at as a New Orleans wedding photographer, largely because the space was renovated so intentionally that each corner offers a beautiful spot to take photos.
Because Inna and Harrison didn’t have a wedding party, there was even more space to utilize at Margaret Place for getting ready photos that are stunning and free of distractions. While Margaret Place is beautiful, the bridal suite can feel packed if there are too many people! Having this space with just Inna getting ready felt like such a treat – and the portraits of her feel soft, quiet and vintage.
One of my favorite moments of this wedding day was when the Groom’s mom saw Inna for the first time all dressed – her emotion was palpable and you could tell how much this couple is loved!
Before heading to family portraits, we were able to utilize the inside space of Margaret Place for the couples’ portraits. While the weather in New Orleans is always a toss up, this weekend in March was extra hot! It’s always a good idea when planning a wedding to consider what the inside space of your venue looks like. For a venue like Margaret Place, there are so many spaces to utilize for indoor portraits that are unique – whether it’s too hot, too cold or raining outside, having an indoor option is always a stress-relieving idea!
In addition to indoor spaces, many New Orleans venues have covered balconies which also make for an excellent space for portraits in case of inclement weather!
Luxurious Details for this Colorful Springtime Wedding in New Orleans
One of the most standout parts of the day that took this laidback wedding and made it luxurious were all the INCREDIBLE design elements. From the jaw-dropping florals by Antigua Floral, to the lux furniture by Lovegood Rentals, and the impressive menu from Black Pearl Catering, this was a a luxurious New Orleans wedding at it’s best.
The color palette that Lovegood Rentals used for the furniture seamlessly blended in with what was already present with Margaret Place – it was like that furniture was meant to be there!
The florals by Antigua Floral were also a showstopper – this colorful, spring inspired color palette felt like it elevated the entire space. The tables were adorned not only with luxurious flowers, but colorful fruit and towering candles. This was truly one of my favorite floral design set ups to photograph this year!
Another design element I absolutely loved was the Kids’ Lounge that was set up in one of the common spaces at Margaret Place. It had everything needed to keep the youngsters entertained and having fun through out the entire wedding day!
Romantic Ceremony in the Courtyard of Margaret Place
Have you been to a wedding ceremony in the Courtyard of Margaret Place? It doesn’t get more New Orleans than a celebration in a brick courtyard with lush foliage! This is what makes Margaret Place one of my favorite spots to shoot in New Orleans! Not only is it a gorgeous space architecturally, but the lush foliage in the courtyard makes it even more impressive, and a stunning backdrop to any floral design added in.
Inna + Harrison chose to walk with each other down the aisle to their ceremony. I’ve loved seeing couples ditch traditions and do what best represents them. It felt so special to see these two walk each with each other down the aisle!
After the ceremony, the couple treated their guests to a second line and performance by Kinfolk Brass Band, a New Orleans wedding tradition! These guys really know how to get a crowd engaged, and are one of my favorite bands to photograph!
These two black and white images of Kinfolk Brass Band may be my new favorite!
A Luxurious Wedding Reception at Margaret Place
After the second line, guests were treated to a fine dining dinner experience catered by Black Pearl Catering, with an almost exclusively Gluten Free menu! The food, as I can attest, was absolutely delicious and a highlight of this wedding reception at Margaret Place.
Beignets Instead of a Traditional Wedding Cake
Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Inna and Harrison opted to exchanged beignet bites! Beignets are one of the tastiest treats you can have in New Orleans, and highly recommend including them in your wedding day!
A huge thank you to all of the creatives who made this day fantastic!
