Sarah and Curry had an unconventional, retro-inspired wedding celebration at the Botanical Gardens in New Orleans City Park. Between Sarah’s colorful and unique Staud wedding dress and the beauty of a mild spring day in New Orleans, the day could not have been more perfect – and especially to capture on film!
While every wedding can look good on film, this one was exception. The retro details that were made looked so natural on vintage photo mediums.
Getting ready for their wedding together in Bayou Saint John
We started the day with Sarah and Curry getting ready together as a couple at their Airbnb in Bayou Saint John neighborhood. This was the perfect spot since it was just a few steps away from City Park, which leant to an easy commute to the ceremony and reception location! Bayou Saint John is also an idyllic, quaint neighborhood and a perfect spot to look for a short term rental if you are staying in town for your wedding!
Unique New Orleans Couples Wedding Portraits on Film
Getting ready together before your wedding can be an excellent idea for people who want to take the stress off of making specific moments happen. Once both Sarah and Curry were dressed, we were able to seamlessly transition into some portraits before heading off to City Park for the ceremony. These photos, especially since many of them were shot on film or with a film mentality, feel extra vintage and real.
Taking a pedi-cab to your New Orleans wedding
Nothing quite says getting married in New Orleans like a colorful pedi-cab as your wedding day transportation! Because their airbnb was so close to City Park, Sarah and Curry were able to jump into this cute, hot pink pedicab to be escorted to their ceremony at New Orleans City Park! This was a fun and joyful part of the day!
Wedding Photos at New Orleans Botanical Gardens
Once we arrived to City Park, we took advantage of the beautiful Botanical Gardens that were in perfect full bloom at the time of this event! One of my favorite places to shoot here though is in the succulent and cacti greenhouse – the colors and textures make for a perfect backdrop for stunning and unique wedding portraits!
The conservatory at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens is also painted clementine orange, which makes for a statement piece for wedding portraits as well! The orange from the conservatory complimented Sarah’s dress perfectly.
Intimate Wedding Ceremony under the Oak Tree at City Park
When it was time for the ceremony, Sarah and Curry’s guests were escorted over to the stately live oak for their intimate ceremony. This tree is one of the largest in the park, and it makes sense why couples like to use it as a ceremony backdrop!
Sarah and Curry chose to walk down the aisle together – which had many of their guests in tears! I’ve been seeing more couples opt for walking with each other down the aisle and it’s a new tradition that I think it super special if it means something to you!
Sarah and Curry also incorporated some Jewish traditions into their ceremony since Sarah’s family is Jewish! Right before the kiss, the couple celebrated their vows with the tradition of breaking of the glass!
A colorful, laidback New Orleans Wedding Reception
While the conservatory and Botanical Gardens at New Orleans City Park are impressive and gorgeous, they also lend themselves perfectly for couples who want a laid back wedding. The gardens themselves are noteworthy to explore and guests can roam around and enjoy them freely while at wedding receptions here.

A lively wedding reception for a New Orleans Wedding
One of my absolute favorite parts of Sarah and Curry’s wedding day was the fact that The Lost Bayou Ramblers were the reception band! They are absolutely incredible, and highly recommend considering them for your event, or see them live at one of their own!
One cool reception detail was the face sparkles – a New Orleans tradition! It was super fun to see Sarah, Curry, and their guests as sparkly!
